pie crust
2 cups flour (plain)
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup veg. shortening
1/3 cup butter
enough milk to make it stick togeather
 
Blend flour,salt,shortening and butter to it looks like corn mill. Add enough milk until it just holds togeather. Roll out on flour surface. Makes 2 pie crust.
healthy buttermilk biscuits
2 cups unbleached self rising flour (I use white lily)
1/2 tea. sugar
1 cup nonfat buttermilk
2 tablespoons veg. oil
1 tablespoon nonfat sour cream
 
sift flour and sugar togeather. Mix buttermilk, veg. oil and sour cream togeather, add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture and stir just until moistened. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface. Knead 5 to 6 times. Roll out to 3/4" thick and cut into rounds. Put onto baking sheet and bake at 425 deg. for 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly browned. Serves 12.
 
Alt. recipe:
You can substitute 2 cups plain flour, 2 tea. baking powder, 1/2 tea baking soda and 1/2 tea salt for the self rising flour.
